In a joint effort with several members of the SAI-P (Unilever, Kellogg, Migros), the project aims to assess farmers according to the SAI Platform standard, proposing specific training for them given by the Italian National Rice Research Centre (Ente Nazionale Risi) and industry professionals (universities, NGOs, etc.), to improve their performance.

The main subjects of study are precision agriculture, conservation agriculture, use of nutrients and fertilisers, and environmental, growing and biodiversity improvement practices backed by CAP / PSR. Monitoring and potentially mitigating methane emissions in rice represent other challenges the SAIRISI group wants to tackle. One of the unusual aspects of this project is that it brings together farmers, rice millers, companies and retailers on a single platform with the aim of improving farming sustainability.
